Which type of RC car is best for you? Should you choose gas powered RC cars, nitro cars or electric cars? What is the difference between these types of cars and what do those differences means in terms of performance and cost of operation?

When you hear the term gas powered RC cars it is commonly used interchangeably with the term nitro powered RC cars. While the terms can be used interchangeably and nitro powered RC cars are powered by a fuel mixture that contains part gasoline, a RC car can just be simply powered by gasoline.

You will find that there are not as many gas powered RC cars available on the market today as nitro or electric powered RC cars. The reason for this is that although gas powered RC cars were once extremely popular, nitro powered cars have largely come to eclipse gas powered cars in popularity.

The main difference between gas powered RC cars and other cars is generally the size of the car. A two stroke gasoline engine on a RC car will naturally need to be larger than an electric or nitro engine. As a result, the actual size of the car will typically need to be larger as well. For the most part, this means that you will find typical gas powered RC cars fall into the 1:5 scale. Such gas powered RC cars about twice the size of comparable nitro powered cars, even when based on the same full-size model.

As a result of the size, gas powered RC cars will typically be more expensive than electric or nitro versions of the same cars. If you are looking for options for your first RC car and are shopping on a budget then gas powered RC cars may not be a realistic option for you.

The advantage to these cars is that they are quite easy to maintain. In fact, many people feel that they are easier to maintain than nitro cars. It can also be easier to work with the two stroke engine on the gas powered RC car as well.  The size of the car often makes it easier to access the parts than would be the case with a smaller scale car. The cost of operation of a gas powered car is also typically less due to the fact that gasoline generally cost less than nitro fuel.
