While in exile, Charles II of England frequently used yachts and continued to do so even afterwards. Over time, people have found classic yachts to be the perfect avenue for leisure and also utilized them for sports as well. But with today’s society, there have been new designs and models for yachts. The majority of the time classic yachts are made from wood, however, they can also be made from steel. Yachts can have a length of only 6 meters all the way up to 130 meters long. They also have different propulsion systems that make them run, like the hybrid types where a yacht’s captain can choose from getting power from the wind or by motor. These types of classic yachts give the feeling that the sailor is a part of the ocean.
Because of how society dictates stereotypes, the usual connotation for those who own yachts are the filthy rich people, little does the public know that yachts are not only the ones that we usually see in movies where the yachts used are enormous and are where parties are usually held. Many who are frequent users of yachts, are aware that this type of vessel can be placed into the sporting category, leisure category, or simply for luxury. Over the years, classic yachts have made the impression that they are owned only by the rich. Though being stereotyped to being the playthings of only the rich is not technically bad, it is a sad thought for modern sailors that a lot of people have not enjoyed the fun of sailing on yachts.
With new technology advancing, new materials are being used on the construction of yachts, if in the old days classic yachts were made from wood or steel and were powered by nature, today’s newer models have hulls created from fiberglass, carbon fiber, aluminum and ferrocement. They are even powered differently as more and more engines are being used depending on the type and size of the yacht that will be using the engine. There are still many classic yacht lovers who prefer the simple manufacturing of small engines and power by wind.
