There are lots of runners that don’t understand the importance of a good running backpack. However, since they are important you need to find one that works for you and there are lots of them to choose from.
In most cases people aren’t going to buy running backpacks if they only run a mile or two. If you are more serious about your running though then you need to really think carefully about getting a pack. If you decide to buy one of the many types of running backpacks then there are a few things you should consider.
The first thing you need to do is look for a camel backpack to wear. This is important because it means the pack has a water bladder in it. If you carry the water with you in your pack then you will not get thirsty out on a long run. You need to think about hydration when you are doing a long run. You do not want to wait and only think about hydrating when you get thirsty. You want to be drinking water long before you actually feel thirsty. If you wait to feel thirsty then you know you’re already dehydrated.

Another thing to consider are the straps that are on the hydration pack you want to buy. Many of the less expensive packs only have the shoulder straps. You want a pack that has waist straps and chest straps in addition to well padded shoulder straps. These additional straps will keep the pack from moving around.
You also want to find a pack that has a few easy to access pockets where you can keep other important things that you need while you are running. This could include your keys or even some energy shot gels or gummies. You’ll know a pack has good pockets if they are located someplace that is easy to access if you are out running with the pack.
