Did you just find out that your best friends for years have filed for divorce since one of them was caught cheating? Did your brother just file for a divorce because of the extra-marital affair of his wife whom you believed was very much in love with him? Now that cheating is on the rise, how can you identify the signs of cheating?

It can really come as a surprise if one of the couples that you have idolized all these past years are filing for divorce because of the discovery of an extra-marital affair. Why is it that some blissful marriages still end in divorce? How can a devoted husband or wife even think of loving someone else?

First, you have to know that a person succumbs to cheating because of many different reasons. It may be unmet needs, lack of respect for the partner, insecurity, and many more. Therefore, if you feel that any of these reasons is in your marriage right now, make the necessary adjustments so that it will not get out of hand.

If you feel that you have been so preoccupied with work all these months, take a breather and spend it with your spouse. Better yet, always set aside a day in the week that will only be for your spouse. You can just eat dinner at your backyard and start reminiscing and making plans for the future. It does not have to be luxurious as long as your message of love and affection comes across.

On the other hand, if none of the reasons for cheating is in your marriage right now but you still feel that something is wrong, look for the signs of cheating. Just remember that some signs can be too vague that you may not notice them at all. Or some people are just too good in hiding their affair that you cannot find any evidence. Some women or men hire a private investigator just to be sure since they cannot really follow their spouse around all the time.

Nevertheless, you may still find one or two signs that tell you that your spouse is involved with somebody else. If you love watching movies, you may have surely seen these signs of cheating like lack of intimacy, always on overtime at work, whispering on the phone, odor of an unfamiliar perfume, lipstick marks, and others.

Indeed, some men are not too discrete that they come home with a lipstick mark on their polo or handkerchief. Or the smell of a new perfume can be rubbed onto your spouse’s clothes.

Some spouses also look at the personal stuff of their spouse like wallets or purse. Sometimes, spouses are able to get receipts of jewelry or hotel rooms inside the wallet. If you were not with him or her in the hotel room, who could it be? If he or she did not give you the ring, for whom did he or she buy it for?

There are really a lot of different signs of cheating that will help you find out if your spouse is involved with someone else.

Georgia divorce laws support two grounds for filing for divorce – no-fault based grounds and fault based grounds. However regardless of the grounds for filing the divorce, testimonies or proof must be provided to the court to substantiate the reason, otherwise the court may throw the divorce petition out.

If children are involved in the divorce proceedings, the Georgia divorce laws take a somewhat different view when compared to laws of other states. For example, if the child is still a minor and yet aged 14 or above, the child has the right to choose with which parent s/he wants to live. The only reason why a court would overturn the child’s decision is if the parent is deemed unfit to take custody.

If the child is under the age of 14 but aged 11 or above, and expresses a strong desire for one parent or the other, then the court will take this into consideration when making it’s decision to grant custody to one of the parents. For children under the age of 11, the court will decide custody, based on a number of factors.

Somewhat different from other states, the Georgia divorce laws also recognize the rights of grandparents with regard to visitations. In other words, when the case is before the courts, grandparents are allowed to give their input into questions regarding the custody of the children and visitation rights of the parent.

In the area of financial settlement, Georgia, like many other states, is regarded as an ‘equitable distribution’ state. What this basically means is that if the two parties concerned are unable to reach a division of financial means outside of court, the court will allocate the financial debt and property between the two parties according to the state laws. Naturally if both parties concerned are able to reach a settlement agreeable by both sides out of court, this is a much easier and less complicated process than if it is left up to the court to decide.

For military members who are considering applying for divorce under Georgia divorce law, special rules and regulations can apply which can differ from a typical civilian divorce. Here I would advise to check the special Georgia Military divorce laws for more information.

Lastly, as with other states, Georgia divorce laws can change over a period of time, so if you are thinking about filing for a divorce under Georgia law, check that you have the most accurate, up to date details by reading the Georgia state statutes.
