steel darts and dartboard

Steel Tip Darts

As its history claims, darting has been around for centuries.  It has even given hours of entertainment back in the Middle Ages when both the upper and the lower classes in society enjoy the game.  Well, once the dart throwers acquire some knowledge of the game and which kinds of darts work best with their personal style, whether it is soft tip or steel tip darts, it is just so easy and normal for them to form preferences.  For instance, employing the traditional dart boards and steel tip darts is a combination many darters prefer.

Now, what is a steel tip dart?  How it differs from soft tip darts?

The steel tip darts is in the first place mainly employed with the bristle dart boards.  However, it does not mean that it can’t be used in the electronic dart boards to which its counterpart, soft tip darts, are commonly used.  The truth is, the steel tip darts can be employed on electronic dart boards provided that the board has a BristleTech surfaces.

The steel tip darts also have a very sharp steel point, designed to stick in the fiber of a bristle dart board.  As commonly noted, these items can be complex with as many as five absolutely separate removable parts.  They can even be tuned for a much better performance.

The Right Steel Tip Darts for the Right Board

A number of models of steel tip darts are now available in a variety of weights.  However, as steel tip darts are best suited for traditional dart boards, many darters prefer those that weigh from 20 to 25 grams.  There are also some steel tip darts that weigh up to 50 grams, but it is important to note that when it comes to this level of weight, it is generally difficult to find darts that weigh more than 30 grams.   And, most of these steel tip darts are made of brass, nickel – silver, copper, and tungsten.

Fixed Tip Darts

Fixed tip darts are actually the most common traditional type of steel tip dart.  They are named as such because of their securely attached, immovable points.  And, while most of the dart tips have replaceable tips, this particular kind is only replaceable with the specialized tools.

Moveable Steel Tip Darts

The primary advantage of a moveable steel tip dart is basically its ability to lessen the bounce-outs by up to 80 percent.  It is usually noted that after a moveable tip dart is thrown, it greatly hits a dart board wire, causing the barrel of the dart to slide forward, and then pushing the dart into the board.  So, instead of bouncing off and falling to the floor, the steel tip dart will securely penetrate the board.  However, it is somehow necessary to note that because of the advancement in technology that gave way to the ability of replacing the tips, most of the moveable steel tip darts can cost a bit more than other darts.

Dart Makers

Today, several companies offer steel tip darts.  To mention but a few well-known dart makers, there are the DMI, Dart World, LaserDarts, and Accudart.   They generally hold many types of darts for you to choose from, of course, in different price ranges.  Just note that the steel tip darts, particularly those with moveable points, usually give best results on the traditional boards.
