Independent Film Festivals have emerged due to indie films of great successes like the Blair Witch Project, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween

Since the advent of digital technologies in cameras and motion picture recording, movie production costs was considerably lower. To that effect when wealthy nations with masses that can easily afford digital equipment and have plenty of free time to boot, the production of independent films did also increase dramatically.
