Recreation in Bora Bora

Bora Bora offers a wide range of land and water-based recreation activities from hiking to scuba diving. There are so many ways to explore and experience this beautiful island paradise that you will never run out of things to do or see. Here are some recreation activities to enjoy in Bora Bora:

Needless to say, swimming is the most popular recreation in the island as well as simply strolling along or gazing at the beautiful white-sand beaches. To add some excitement to your swimming, go snorkeling or diving at Bora Bora’s lagoon and be amazed at the colorful stream of tropical fishes and the island’s magnificent corals. With the abundance of marine life in Bora Bora, you will see manta rays, reef sharks, moray eels, sea turtles, dolphins and maybe migrating whales if you visit during August to October.

Bora Bora’s marine life is the island’s treasure so experiencing it should be on top of your recreation activities and there are many ways to do so including sailing and jet skiing to explore secluded beach coves. Non-divers or even non-swimmers can also experience the undersea wonders of Bora Bora through the Aqua Safari where guests walk the sandy bottom of the lagoon about 10 meters deep wearing a special diving suit and gear. As guests simply walk by they will be able to see brightly-colored reef fishes.

A picnic at the beach is also a popular recreation in Bora Bora. You can start by taking a cruise of the lagoon and then stopping to swim or snorkel on a secluded islet or motu where you can also have a picnic brunch, lunch or afternoon snack.

If you want to explore the island, a great way to do this is to take a 4×4 drive safari that will bring you to the island’s incredible valleys and mountain peaks. Expeditions usually include visits to villages, historical sites and vanilla plantations. Guided tours may also be done using a minibus or minivan.

Exploring Vaitape, Bora Bora’s main village, is also a good way to spend a day or half a day of your vacation in the island. The village is located at the foot of the stately Mount Pahia. It is the island’s commercial center so you can expect a host of handicraft and souvenir shops here. Shopping is another favorite recreation of tourists as there are many beautiful items you can bring home from the colorful pareos and tifaifai to black pearls and manoi oil.

The recreation activities mentioned above will surely make your vacation days in Bora Bora pass by quickly and you will want to come back to experience the wonders of this island again.
