Second Life is not a "game" any more than the internet is a "game". It is a virtual reality platform in which a number of activities take place. Most major UK and US universities have campuses there offering courses for which the virtual world is ideal. Corporations have promotional and product development activities in Second Life. Filmmakers have used the platform for the creation of animated content. Architects have purchased islands for 3-D modelling of buildings in design. Artists are using the platform to create not-possible-in-real-life multimedia art and performance art. International activists for peace and the environment are reaching across national boundaries to organize in Second Life. Religious groups have established faith based groups .... the list goes on.
