The management of military members and their funds is proving problematic. The bank has foreclosed on over a dozen active servicemembers’ homes. The conditions under which the homes were foreclosed were very suspect. Active duty military member’s student education loans are the next point of contention for the bank. Several military members were getting pay day loans just to stay above water.
Treatment of active service members by JPMorgan Chase being investigated
Things like student loans, mortgages, checking, savings and lines of credit are all accessible at the mega-finance bank, Chase. Federal prosecutors and congressional committees are investigating JPMorgan Chase. This is for the way active-duty service members have been treated including the military loans that have been given out. The service members are getting charged too much by Chase, in accordance with accusations.
Military members can get a student loan too
Student loans through Chase for active-duty members meant surprising news. In the last few weeks, this has been circulating. The loans were going to be due soon, even though they were deferred. While military members were on duty, Chase would defer student education loans. In Jan 2011, the short term installment loan policy changed. In just a couple weeks, the service members were informed they would have to start paying. This meant about $400 a month extra. After multiple grievances from servicemembers saying they would need to take out a pay day loan to cover these costs, and the threat of additional congressional inquiries, Chase re-reversed the policy.
The query into home loans at Chase
Just a few weeks ago, an ABC News exploration that got congressional inquiries going started with JPMorgan Chase. There were cases in which Chase admit to overcharging military members for their homes and wrongly foreclosed to them. Homes in Reno, Nevada and Irving, Texas were included in this. The Service Member Civil Relief Act is one that was broken with this and with the student loan policy. The act limits the legal and financial actions for which servicemembers could be held responsible while they are on active duty.
